The 10 Best Tattoo Shops in Portland (2026)
Portland’s tattoo scene stretches across neighborhoods, from busy commercial corridors to quieter residential blocks. This ranking is built from Google ratings and review counts, updated for 2026, using a Bayesian-style approach that weighs average scores by how many people reviewed each shop. The method helps balance perfect averages with meaningful review volume so places with few ratings don’t leap to the top. Consider this list a starting point for research—check portfolios, availability, and hygiene practices with shops directly before booking.
This ranking is computed from Google reviews (our method). Listings marked Partner are paid advertising spots: they sit alongside the ranking without changing its order.

Frequently asked questions
How should I choose a tattoo shop in Portland?
Start by reviewing portfolios to see the artists’ styles and past work, and read recent customer reviews for consistency. Confirm the shop’s licensing and ask about sterilization practices, then schedule a consultation to discuss your idea and availability.
What should I check before getting tattooed?
Inspect the artist’s portfolio and ask about their experience with the specific style you want. Verify that the shop follows standard hygiene protocols—single-use needles, new gloves, and a clean workspace—and get clear aftercare instructions.
How much does a tattoo typically cost?
Tattoo pricing varies by shop, artist experience, size, complexity, and time required; many shops charge by the hour or offer flat rates for certain designs. Ask for an estimate during a consultation and get any deposit and cancellation policies in writing.
How is this ranking built and updated?
This list uses Google ratings and review counts in a Bayesian-style calculation that weighs average scores by the number of reviews, reducing the impact of very small sample sizes. It was updated for 2026 to reflect current public feedback, but you should still check recent reviews and the shop’s own portfolio before booking.
