Frequently asked questions
How should I choose the right fence contractor in Portland?
Start by checking recent customer reviews and the contractor’s Google rating to understand reliability and workmanship. Confirm licensing, insurance, and local permitting experience, and ask for multiple written estimates that detail materials, timelines, and cleanup responsibilities.
What does hiring a fence contractor typically cost?
Fence costs vary widely based on materials, length, site conditions, and labor; expect estimates to reflect those variables. Compare detailed bids rather than single-line prices, and ask about warranties and whether permit fees are included or excluded.
What should I check before hiring a fence company?
Verify that the company has proper insurance and any required local licensing, ask for references or recent project photos, and confirm who will handle permits and utility locates. Also clarify payment schedule, start and completion dates, and how change orders will be handled.
How was this ranking of fence contractors created?
This list is based on Google review data updated for 2026, using a Bayesian-style approach that weights average ratings by the number of reviews so businesses with high scores and substantial feedback rise in the ranking. It is intended as a research tool rather than a guarantee of service quality.
