The 10 Best Driving Schools in Portland (2026)
This list ranks the top driving schools serving the Portland area using a simple, reproducible method: Google review ratings weighted by review counts, updated for 2026. We prioritized businesses with high scores and meaningful review volume so small sample quirks don’t push tiny shops to the top. The Portland region has a wide range of options — from standard teen driver education and adult lessons to commercial truck instruction and specialty performance training — so this guide focuses on reputation as reflected in public reviews rather than price or program specifics.
This ranking is computed from Google reviews (our method). Listings marked Partner are paid advertising spots: they sit alongside the ranking without changing its order.

Frequently asked questions
How should I pick the right driving school?
Compare recent reviews and total review counts, verify the types of instruction offered (teen, adult, commercial), and confirm instructors’ credentials and insurance coverage. Visit or call to ask about class size, vehicle condition, and whether instruction includes behind-the-wheel time relevant to your goals.
What can I expect to pay for lessons or a course?
Costs vary by program type, number of hours, and whether the school offers packages or single lessons. Ask for written pricing and what’s included—such as road test accompaniment, materials, or certificate of completion—before committing.
What should I check before hiring a driving school?
Look for valid licensing, instructor certifications, clear cancellation and refund policies, and appropriate vehicle insurance. Also review recent customer feedback to spot recurring strengths or complaints and request references if you want extra assurance.
