Frequently asked questions
How should I choose a chimney sweep in Portland?
Look for recent online reviews, clear Google ratings, and a business listed in the appropriate category. Verify they carry insurance, provide written estimates, and can explain whether they perform inspections, cleanings, or repairs before you book.
What should I expect a chimney sweep to do during an inspection or cleaning?
A professional will inspect the flue, firebox, damper, and visible chimney components, and then remove creosote and debris during a cleaning. They should explain findings, recommend repairs only if needed, and provide a written record of the inspection.
When is the right time to call a chimney sweep?
Schedule an inspection before the heating season or after long periods of disuse, and call promptly if you notice smoke backup, unusual odors, or signs of animals or blockage. Regular seasonal checks help reduce fire risk and keep appliances operating efficiently.
How was this ranking built and why do review counts matter?
This list is ordered from public Google ratings using a Bayesian-style approach that weights the average score by review volume and was updated in 2026. Higher review counts reduce the chance that a perfect average is due to a small sample, so businesses with many positive reviews rank higher.
